Technorati - State of the Blogosphere 2008

For those who have not already seen it, Technorati has a rather useful report on the State of the Blogosphere. You will find the introduction here.

I will write a review once the series is finished - T is publishing on a daily basis. I found the report interesting because it provides sufficient information to allow me to benchmark my own blogging.

A big thanks for noting this Jim. I'd have missed it otherwise, and I've found thr first few parts fascinating. I look forward to any post you might write about these in the hopes that I can start some sort of cross-blog discussion with you about the topic. The Internet as a whole intrigues me to no end in terms of social and cultural issues, and the blogosphere more-so because it's something I'm engaged in.

Hi Thomas. I am glad that you found the post of use and would be very pleased indeed to have a cross-blog chat. I am just as fascinated as you.

On community, one of the things that I have found interesting (and valuable) is the way in which we have formed our own blogging community with Neil's blog in some ways as the centre, with each pursuing their own interests, yet with cross-links and references.

If you look at the both the volume of posts and the average time we spend blogging, we all tend to fall in the more active blog class on the T. figures.

If you look at readership,we also attract at least some comments and have a generally small if unknown number of regular readers. I say unknown because I keep finding return readers either from comments or from the stats themselves.

We also experiment in different ways, so that we know from each others experience what works. I have been especially interested in responses to your US posts plus Neil's Palin experience. Here there are actually some charts in the T. material on search frequencies that set your experience in context.

More later!

Interesting material indeed, Jim. I am flattered that you see my blog as some kind of community centre! ;)

However, could you correct your side bar link? Anyone going to the Gateway now just gets told I have deleted the blog!

Correction made, Neil. Not sure about the concept of community centre though, sounds to much a social welfare point! Centre of community perhaps?
